Regurgitated Revelation

This subject has been on my mind for years. How today's church simply eats whatever is fed to them from the pulpits in church.
Regurgitated revelation....That's what we live on now. We live off the revelation of SOMEONE ELSE, instead of getting our own knowledge from studying out what God's Word says. When was the last time you thought "is that REALLY what the Scripture means?" and pulled out that old dusty Bible reference book? Or do you even have one?

It bothers me GREATLY when a speaker gives ONE SCRIPTURE, then says "Now here is what that Scripture means..." going on to give an entire sermon based on one sentence from the Bible. Where is the example in that?
The last church service I attended, the pastor gave an entire story from the Bible and then explained how you can know what you have from God is real, based on the story and how things unfolded in it. God is a God of pattern. Our Bible shows us that over and over. It was one of the most touching services I've been in. Questions were answered, prayers were said and almost a week later, I'm wondering how I followed God without that knowledge in my life.

Regurgitated revelation. Do you just eat what is fed or do you make sure what you hear is correct? I know some of you, without a doubt, will believe this blog is about a certain situation that's taking place. Think what you want. This is just April. Giving what she believes is a Word that someone needs to hear. The title of this blog has been in my mind for about 4 years now. I lived for years on Regurgitated Revelation, letting a man that stood in the pulpit, feed me the exact thing I just stated... "This is what this Scripture means" and go on about how one sentence can mean 8 different things. Jesus didn't teach in sentences only. If I recall, it's a PARABLE and it taught a lesson, told a story, not just deliver a line. It almost destroyed my faith. If I had been a weak person, it would have. I questioned EVERYTHING after this experience. I couldn't sing certain "church" songs because of the unfailing devotion and love they spoke of... when what I had JUST witnessed was the farthest thing from love I had ever seen. Using Regurgitated Revelation to manipulate people, using what the pastor said in his sermon to beat people over the head and make sure they "didn't fall away"... how can you  not question what puts others down when it's presented as Godly?

I believe without a DOUBT in my mind that God does NOT call you to one specific location of a church. We are members of His body, not His building. We are free in Christ. And that means being free to choose where we worship. God is not restrictive in His desire for our good. It doesn't stop His will or damn you to hell for choosing to worship somewhere else. If so, I've been damed to hell since my parents left a church when I was 9 years old for telling them it was "God's Will" for me to become diabetic.
They chose not to live on Regurgitated Revelation. Taking what one man says and believing it just because HE said it.

Living on someone else's revelation from God is destroying the church from doing what God has TRULY called us to, reaching the lost. When was the last time you were able to minister to an unbeliever with the words "My pastor said..." or "I heard Benny Hinn talking about..." Never works. You know why? It can be argued. No one can argue with MY experience with Jesus. Because it's just that, MY EXPERIENCE. You can't take that away from me. No one can argue that I have physically felt the hand of God on my shoulder or been a witness to demonic activity that I was delivered from a very young age. No one can argue with the incredible times I've had in my prayer life, when God shows Himself to me in a tangible way.
In this aspect, I refuse to live my life on anyone's Regurgitated Revelation.

part 3: the recipient

I didn't know how this would end when I began writing. I just knew I needed to pen my anger.  I had a lot of things I needed to get through: thoughts that take over my brain and I think about over and over. Knowing what I know about myself, I'm stuck here until I take the time to write it down. It's gonna be a lot. I need to write about what happened in the hours after his death, how I remember the last time I saw his face, what exactly I saw & how that April is sooooo separate from the April I am now. I've learned what that is: dissociation.  I've also realized I've used dissociation my entire life. I'm not ready to write about that yet. I need to write these facts down. Facts that sound a little too weird if you've never suffered the loss of a child. I have. So whatever I need is ok as long as it isn't harmful to me or anyone else.  In the middle of writing how angry I am about not having signs from my son, about this deep turmoil I'm addre...

the years that come after

It's not true what they say.  "The first year is the hardest."  That's so far from the truth.  My beloved friend and hair stylist lost her 14 year old son in a tragic gun accident 12 years ago.  Today, as I sat down in her chair I asked her "How long did it take you to enjoy the holiday season again?" In the middle of my question, my breath caught and burst into tears. She shared with me some things that are deeply private, but she did say it.  "The first year is not the hardest." That was exactly what I needed. It was permission. It was my acknowledgement.  I'm not crazy. I'm not losing my mind.  The first year isn't the hardest.  While there IS joy in my life, this year, the third Christmas without Enzo, has been more difficult than the others.  What do I do with that?  No one can answer that. Not even me. Moscato didn't work. Quiet doesn't work. Loud doesn't work.  Smiling doesn't work.  The only thing that HAS helped...

take a shower

Yesterday was two years.  I've taken a shower the evening of both anniversaries during the 10 minute window I believe Enzo pulled the trigger. It's the only place I feel safe from the clock. I can't stare at it. So sometime during my shower, the minute my son fired his gun comes and goes.  Or at least that's the plan. I miscalculated the time I was in the shower last night. When I looked at my phone, it was the exact minute he sent out the Tweet: "after careful consideration I have decided to exit the simulation. I love you all so much and I will see you in the next one." I hate 9:01 pm on February 28th. A jolt went thru my heart. I got out of the shower too soon. Unable to decide what to do, I stood there. I took my nightly medication. And stood there.  Shouldn't I be doing something? Some action at the moment my son took his life that would honor him? Something. Anything.  But I didn't. I stood there. Then I went to bed.  I've done a lot to honor...
